In the Food Chain
In the Food Chain is a collection of mixed media sculptures inspired by local Humboldt Bay wildlife and their tainted food sources. These life-sized sculptures are constructed incorporating traditional craft techniques with reclaimed, recycled, and repurposed elements. Forms of waterfowl emerge from vinyl and aluminum rings, recycled garbage bags, and repurposed wire.
Wildlife habitats are shrinking and those that remain are polluted with single use containers that do not completely degrade. This collection gives a voice for that habitat and a face to what industry and our community are leaving behind. My work is born out of my interests in ancient artistry and exploring the local waterways. At a playful crossroads of environmental activism and historical artifact reproduction, I have combined pollutants to construct an armor and commentary to the predicament of our war on nature.
